North-west Tenerife: Icod de Los Vinos, Garachico and a visit to a winery

Today, this corner of the island is one of its least well-known areas. But that wasn’t always the case. Right here, in Garachico, stood the island’s most important trading port, through which the famous Canarian wines – sold in Europe and the Americas – were shipped in and out. We’ll stroll through its streets steeped in history and visit the neighbouring town of Icod de los Vinos, where we’ll see its thousand-year-old dragon tree. We’ll round off this wine tourism experience with a visit to one of the region’s most important wineries, where we’ll enjoy a tasting of several of their wines and a selection of Canarian specialities. Stories of history and wine

North Tenerife: La Laguna, Casa del Vino and a visit to a winery

On this tour, we’ll stroll through the streets of the island’s most iconic historic centre: San Cristóbal de La Laguna. The city, which is steeped in history at every turn, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999 for being a unique example of an unfortified colonial city, a model which was used in the design of cities in the New World following the conquest of the Americas. The city is home to the first university founded in the Canary Islands, as well as the archipelago’s first and oldest secondary school still in operation, which is why La Laguna has historically been regarded as the intellectual centre of the Canary Islands. Until 1833, it was the de facto capital of the Canary Islands. It is also often referred to as the ‘City of the Adelantados’, as the island’s conqueror, the Adelantado Alonso Fernández de Lugo, had his residence there.

We will visit one of the region’s leading wineries, where we will enjoy a tasting of several of their wines and a selection of Canarian specialities.

We’ll round off the day with a visit to the Casa del Vino in Tenerife

A sea of beliefs and wines

South-East Tenerife: Candelaria, Guimar and a visit to a winery

On this wine tourism tour, we will visit the municipality of Candelaria, home to the Virgin of Candelaria, the patron saint of the Canary Islands. Also known as the Villa Mariana de Candelaria, it is regarded as the archipelago’s most sacred place and the ultimate pilgrimage site. Here, alongside the neighbouring town of Guimar, we will immerse ourselves in the stories and legends of the island’s ancient inhabitants: the Guanches.

The highlight of the wine tourism activity will take place at the end of the day, with a visit to one of the region’s leading wineries, where we will enjoy a tasting of several of their wines and a sampling of Canarian specialities.

Amidst wines, pine trees and volcanoes

Southern Tenerife: Vilaflor, a visit to a winery and Mount Teide

This wine tourism activity begins with a visit to one of the region’s leading wineries, where we will enjoy a tasting of several of their wines and a selection of Canarian specialities.

Following our wine-tasting tour, we’ll stop off at Vilaflor, a beautiful village in the south of Tenerife, nestled in the foothills of Mount Teide. A haven of tranquillity surrounded by rural landscapes and pine forests. Its streets and houses tell the story of the mid-altitude areas of this part of the island, far removed from the nearby, bustling tourist resorts of the south. Its natural and cultural heritage is well worth a leisurely visit.

We’ll round off the day by heading into Teide National Park to take in its stunning volcanic landscape from its extensive network of viewing points.
