About this activity

Get ready to experience one of Tenerife’s most spectacular hiking trails. The Masca Skyline Hike is much more than just a walk: it’s a trek across the peaks of the Teno massif to the village of Masca, where the landscape changes with every step and the views will take your breath away.

Itinerary

1

Starting point in the El Palmar valley: the green heart of Teno

The experience begins in the charming neighbourhood of Las Portelas, in the idyllic El Palmar valley. Right in the heart of the Teno Rural Park, you’ll be greeted by the sounds of the countryside, the fresh air and the tranquillity of a protected rural setting. This is where the adventure begins.

2

A climb through laurel forest with picture-postcard views

We begin the ascent along a path that winds its way through green mountains covered by the ancient laurel forest, an ecological gem unique in the world. As we gain height, the first ‘wow’ moment unfolds behind us: the El Palmar valley stretches out like a green carpet, with views that invite you to pause, take a deep breath and let yourself be awestruck.

3

The Teno ridges: a balcony overlooking the ocean

Once we reached the summit, we walked along a spectacular path that winds along the ridges of the massif. Here, words simply fail me. On one side, the deep ravines of Teno; the vast blue of the Atlantic Ocean; and on the horizon, the silhouette of La Gomera floating like a magical island. This stretch is, without a doubt, one of the route’s greatest highlights: a visual spectacle that stays etched in your memory.

4

Cruz de Hilda Viewpoint: the balcony of the village of Masca

The next highlight comes with the stop at the Cruz de Hilda viewpoint. From this vantage point, one of Tenerife’s most iconic views unfolds before your eyes: the hamlet of Masca, nestled amongst vertiginous cliffs, looks as though it’s straight out of an adventure film. Get ready for the photo of the day.

5

Descent and discovery: the soul of Masca

The descent takes us right into the hamlet of Masca itself, where we slow our pace to explore its cobbled streets, traditional houses and history steeped in legend. Here, you connect with the essence of Teno – its people, its architecture and its unique character.
